Shamelessly taken off my fren's blog

When things in your lives seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the story of the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls.
He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous "yes."
The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed. "Now," said the professor as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.
The golf balls are the important things--your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions---and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car.
The sand is everything else---the small stuff. "If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things thatare important to you. "Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Takecare of the golf balls first --- the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."
One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

Busy sem ahead!

It's been quite a rewarding week so far. I took up the responsibility of being the alumni secretariat chair not so long ago. I must admit initially i was very hesistant as i am already a fyf and have to handle quite a lot of things like appts, courses, fyps and of cos my studies. Slowly but surely i have been pulling my cap up these past few semesters. want to make sure that i at least graduate with a honours degree. However i realised that i feel strongly for KR(dun ask me y) and i want to make the kr alumni a strong and happening group that is constantly in touch with the happenings of hall.

Successfully held my first meeting with the committee members today. i must say that i am really glad that i have a capable jcrc in charge as well as a responsible vice who takes initiative. Feel that we work well together. Had a hard time choosing my members as i feel a lot of them are quite up to the job but i am very satisfied with my choice of members so far =) Have a lot of ideas for the alumni comm but i shall be realistic and try to achieve what i can during my term ...

went for saving needs course in GE just now. Felt that it's really useful as it allows me to have a better understandin of the various instruments that we are working with. After the course went for recre with some of the handballers. I think we should really play more such games together as i felt that i learned quite a lot during the recre just now in terms of what i am lacking as well as new ideas on how to attack. Shall be working on my weakness and strive to be a more complete player by the time IHG comes.

Load of work to be done. I guess i still like the feeling of being busy such that free time seems extra precious.

A fren of mine finally blogged like FINALLY..

quoted from him
ever have this feeling of not feeling appreciated????I mean u feel u ve done alot, u feel that u haf tried in ur own way to do ur best for ur grp or sth???
yet at the end of the day ur reward is someone coming up to u n says "hey I think U haf slacked, U realli shouldnt haf been so inactive, muz b proactive mah"OR "i think u are taking things for granted, I dunno why U r always lidat, wait for things to happen"Well well well ppl are hard to please...... and there's a great tendancy for others to judge U esp when they're involved in it

hmm.. interesting...

Went back to office today. Initially i was pretty reluctant as i wanted to do my school work. But i felt that the trip back to office was really really worth it.

I think the more i talk to chuan the more i respect him and want to emulate him. Basically i guess for some of my frens they will know that i am not a very motivated person by nature. I love to slack. But after talking to chuan, he always manage to bring me to the right direction. I mean i have been procrastinating about some issues with regards to insurance but after the session with him, it's become clear to me what i wanna do etc.
Just as what the Thesis says, the elephant is bounded by the chain becos it is conditioned to assume that it is unable to break free from the chain. I too must break free from my limitations before i can achieve what i want.
by helping enough pple to succeed in life you will succeed =) I shall strive to do that =)
